What is your background?
I’ve been competing in fitness competitions since 1995, so I always understood the importance of makeup and hair as part of the overall presentation on stage. In 2005, I earned my professional status and currently compete as an IFBB Figure Pro.
Over the years, I have been involved in many aspects within the sport of fitness; helping others prepare for competitions by providing diet and workout plans with my husband, Darren, for our company Freak Fitness.
I have been focusing on the finishing aspect of fitness competitions, providing professional spray tanning, makeup and hair services.
How long have you been a makeup artist?
I completed the makeup artistry course at MC college in Winnipeg in 2011 and have been working at perfecting my craft since. Most recently, I approached Two Chicks & Some Lipstick to train under them by learning how to create their signature photoshoot glam makeup and hair, as well as expanding my knowledge of bridal makeup, competition makeup techniques and adding more professional products to my makeup kit.
When did you know you wanted to be a makeup artist?
I was never really satisfied when I had other people do my makeup, so I really wanted to learn how to do my own makeup. Once I understood the basics of makeup by practicing on myself, I started doing my friends makeup and my business grew from there.
Your favourite part of the job?
I love being a part of a woman’s important events; from weddings to photoshoots to fitness competitions! I truly feel that helping women feel beautiful is the most gratifying part of my job.
What inspires you?
street style, confident women, fashion from the 70’s
Why do you love makeup?
I love how makeup can completely transform a face. It’s like playing dress up - you can be a different character based on what kind of makeup you have on. Plus, its fun to play with; there’s no commitment, and you can wash it off!
Any favourite products/techniques?
I love doing glam makeup!
